Proclamation of “The Pensters Day”

Timothy M. Kant, Mayor of the City of Fairhope, proclaimed May 9, 2015, as The Pensters Day in recognition of our 50th year of supporting writing and writers in the community. Mayor Kant commended The Pensters for “continuing to meet, discuss and review writing styles/techniques and the exquisite art of the written word”.

The Pensters is the oldest and largest writing group of its kind in the Baldwin and Mobile counties. The group was formed in 1965 by Frances Ruffin Durham, a native of Mobile, Alabama and a member of the Fairhope literary community.

Through The Pensters’ leadership and faithful members, the group will strive to promote and encourage members and to serve the community for the next fifty years.
